The Songkran Water Festival, which is the Thai New Year starts in mid-April. The dates change year by year. During Songkran there is a lot of partying and water spraying, often with ice in the water.

Thailand is also celebrating workers’ day. Most state-owned companies and banks are closed.

This celebrates the first day when monks will return to their temples. It is held on the full moon in the eighth month.

The very rich King Chulalongkorn was a modernization of the monarchy credited with saving Thailand from European dominance. He has also been in Sweden and therefore the Thai pavilion was built outside Sundsvall. One of Thailand’s foremost universities is named after Chulalongkorn.

Loy Krathong is not an official holiday in Thailand. In Rayong you will find several places where the Thais lay down their flower-decorated boats with incense. At Mae Ramphung Beach / Taphong it is a great event every year. Performances, beauty pageant and floral decoration contest.

Thais do not officially celebrate Christmas. But hang out to decorate with tinsel and Christmas trees in the city and shopping center. Here in Rayong it is easy to find any restaurant that offers Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve.
